CD ProductsPrinted, hardcopy soil survey publications are no longer available in Vermont. The Web Soil Survey offers viewable maps on-line. However, the Web Soil Survey site is occasionally not functional and numerous users in Vermont do not have access to a high speed internet connection. Vermont CD products allow the user another option in addition to Web Soil Survey. The interactive CD format is user-friendly and intuitive. The County Soil CDs and the Theme CDs condense the most frequently needed soils data and put the information into a Vermont context. The County CD products will no longer be updated - limited copies are still available. Theme CDs will be kept current. Theme CDsTheme-based CDs provide pre-made maps, data and explanations in a Vermont context. These CDs are particularly useful to individuals who are not well versed in soils terminology and find the vast array of data that is available bewildering. Theme-based CDs compile all relevant soils information on a specialized topic in a user-friendly format conveniently on a CD. To read these CD products you will need
Currently there is only one Theme-based CD: The Vermont Important Farmland CD. This CD has been updated to include the revised ratings from Sept. 2005. |

Note: The White River Junction soils staff has produced a non-standard CD for Windsor County. It includes USGS topographic quadrangle size maps (which are quite large) and the soils manuscript that was intended for the soil survey publication. Call Thom Villars (802) 295-7942 ext 24 to obtain a copy.
Also Note: Caledonia County will available as certified SSURGO data in the
near future, however, you can get scanned images of the field maps from Roger
DeKett (802) 748-2641 ext 111.
