Other Partnerships

NRCS at the state and field levels work with numerous individuals, groups, agencies and organizations to address natural resource issues. These partnerships have proven mutually beneficial as resources are leveraged to accomplish the needed work. NRCS partners include those listed below as well as many others that are contributing to the conservation effort.

  • American Society of Agronomy - The American Society of Agronomy is dedicated to the development of agriculture enabled by science, in harmony with environmental and human values. The Society supports scientific, educational, and professional activities to enhance communication an technology transfer among agronomists and those in related disciplines on topics of local, regional, national, and international significance.
  • Center for Sustainable Agriculture - The Center for Sustainable Agriculture mission is to bring people with a diversity of interests together to foster an understanding of agricultural issues that will lead to personal, institutional, organizational, and community decisions that encourage farming in Vermont.
  • Connecticut River Joint Commission - The Connecticut River Valley of Vermont and New Hampshire is home to a remarkable partnership among the two states, businesses, farmers, conservationists, and other citizens from many walks of life. Working together through the Connecticut River Joint Commissions, they seek to build a strong and vibrant economy while conserving the natural wealth and beauty of this special place.
  • Lake Champlain Basin Program - The Lake Champlain Basin Program (LCBP) is a federal, state and local initiative to restore and protect Lake Champlain and its surrounding watershed for future generations.
  • Nature Conservancy - The Nature Conservancy mission is to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life protecting the lands and waters they need to survive.
  • National Wildlife Federation - The mission of the National Wildlife Federation is to educate, inspire and assist individuals and organizations of diverse cultures to conserve wildlife and other natural resources and to protect the Earth's environment in order to achieve a peaceful, equitable and sustainable future.
  • Northeast Organic Farmers Association - The Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont (NOFA-VT) is a non-profit association of farmers, gardeners, and consumers working to promote an economically viable and ecologically sound Vermont food system for the benefit of current and future generations.
  • Soil and Water Conservation Society - The Soil and Water Conservation Society fosters the science and the art of soil, water and related natural resource management to achieve sustainability. We promote and practice an ethic recognizing the interdependence of people and the environment.
  • US Environmental Protection Agency - EPA's mission is to protect human health and to safeguard the natural environment — air, water, and land — upon which life depends. For 30 years, EPA has been working for a cleaner, healthier environment for the American people.
  • US Fish & Wildlife Service - The US Fish & Wildlife Service is a bureau with the Department of the Interior. Their mission is working with others to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.
  • USDA Forest Service - The USDA Forest Service is a federal agency that manages public lands in national forests and grasslands. It is also the largest forestry research organization in the world, and provides technical and financial assistance to state and private forestry agencies.
  • USDA Rural Development - USDA Rural Development is committed to helping improve the economy of life in all of rural America. Through their programs, they touch rural America in many ways.
  • Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation - The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation mission is to preserve, enhance, restore and conserve Vermont's natural resources and protect human health for the benefit of this and future.
  • Vermont Department of Forest Parks and Recreation - The mission of the Department of Forests, Parks & Recreation is to practice and encourage high quality stewardship of Vermont's environment by:
    • monitoring and maintaining the health, integrity, and diversity of important species, natural communities, and ecological processes;
    • managing forests for sustainable use;
    • providing and promoting opportunities for compatible outdoor recreation; and
    • furnishing related information, education, and service
  • Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife - The mission of the Vermont Department of Fish & Wildlife is the conservation of fish, wildlife and plants and their habitats for the people of Vermont. In order to accomplish this mission, the integrity, diversity and vitality of all natural systems must be protected
  • Vermont Farm Bureau - The Vermont Farm Bureau's mission is to increase the profitability of their members and preserve Vermont's rural quality of life. The Vermont Farm Bureau plays a critical role in shaping public policy locally, at the state and national levels and internationally by serving on committees and boards and testifying before the legislature and Congress on issues that members feel are important.
  • Vermont Grass Farmers Association - The Vermont Grass Farmers' Association (VGFA) was founded in 1995 with support from the Center. The VGFA helps farmers generate wealth from grass-based farming, provides leadership on grazing issues, and provides primary direction for the Center's Grass Farming Program. In a 1999 survey of VGFA members, 65 percent responded that they had adopted new farm practices as a result of program activities, like discussion groups, pasture walks, and conferences.
  • Vermont Housing & Conservation Board - The Vermont Housing and Conservation Board is an independent, state-supported funding agency providing grants, loans and technical assistance to nonprofit organizations, municipalities and state agencies for the development of perpetually affordable housing and for the conservation of important agricultural land, recreational land, natural areas and historic properties in Vermont.
  • Vermont Land Trust (VLT) - The mission of VLT is to conserve land for the future of Vermont. VLT does this by providing technical and legal assistance to individuals, communities, and local land trusts helping them achieve local conservation objectives. VLT's Conservation Stewardship office is responsible for the long-term monitoring of easements to ensure that the conservation goals are upheld in perpetuity.
  • Women's Ag Network (WAgN) - WAgN, is a collaborative effort of the University of Vermont Extension System, the Women’s Small Business Program, UVM’s Center for Sustainable Agriculture, and the United States Department of Agriculture whose mission is to provide education and technical assistance to individuals starting or enhancing farms and ag-related businesses.
  • Vermont New Farmer Network - The Vermont New Farmer Network is a working group of agricultural organizations committed to serving the needs of new and aspiring farmers in Vermont.
